# Creating a New Cluster and Cluster Dashboard

## Admin guide to adding a cluster in Smartsheet and building its dashboard, including report and chart filter updates.

Creating a cluster is a two-part job: adding it to the intake sheet, then copying and re-pointing a dashboard from the template.

> **Column colours in the Cluster Intake Sheet**
> **Grey** — automatic columns. Do not edit manually.
> **Orange** — manually entered, relating to external systems (e.g. HubSpot).
> **White** — manually editable directly in the sheet.

---

### Part 1 — Add the cluster

**Step 1.** Open the **Cluster Intake Sheet**.

**Step 2.** Add the new cluster, or confirm the existing list is up to date.

**Step 3.** Update the **Objectives** column so the correct cluster-to-objective mappings are established.

---

### Part 2 — Build the dashboard

**Step 4.** Navigate to the **Cluster folder**.

**Step 5.** Right-click the **Cluster Template** folder and select **Save as new**.

- **Name your folder:** type the Cluster Name
- **Save in:** ECA-Clusters workspace

**Step 6.** Open the new cluster folder → **Cluster Dashboard Data** → **Cluster Dashboard Metrics** sheet.

Open the **Sheet Summary** panel (far right of the screen) and update the **Cluster** field with the Cluster Name.

**Step 7.** Update the filter criteria on every **report** in the Cluster Dashboard Data folder:

- Open the reports one by one
- Click the **Filters** option
- Add the new cluster name to the Cluster filter
- **Untick the old cluster name**
- Save the report, and repeat for all reports

**Step 8.** Repeat the same filter update for every **chart** in the charts folder, nested under Cluster Dashboard Data.

> **Don't skip a report.** A copied template still points at the source cluster. Any report or chart you miss will keep showing the other cluster's data — and it looks plausible enough that nobody notices.

---

### Part 3 — Link the dashboard back

**Step 9.** Locate the new Cluster Dashboard, right-click, and select **Copy link**.

**Step 10.** Return to the **Cluster Intake Sheet**. Right-click the **Cluster Dashboard Link** cell and select **Hyperlink**.

- **Link to URL:** paste the copied link
- **Display Text:** type the Cluster Name

**Step 11.** Save the sheet.
