Creating a New Objective and Objective Dashboard

Adding an objective and standing up its dashboard from the template.

Create the cluster first. An objective inherits its cluster data. If the cluster isn't in the Cluster Intake Sheet, the objective's cluster fields will come through blank. See Creating a New Cluster and Cluster Dashboard.

Part 1 — Add the objective

Step 1. Open the Objective Intake Sheet.

Step 2. Add the new objective, or confirm the existing list is up to date.

Step 3. Confirm the cluster-related columns are displaying the correct information pulled in from Cluster Intake:

  • Cluster Name
  • Cluster Lead
  • Sponsoring General Manager

If any of these are blank or wrong, fix the Cluster Intake Sheet before continuing. Everything downstream inherits these values.

Part 2 — Build the dashboard

Step 4. Navigate to the Objective folder.

Step 5. Right-click the Objective Template folder and select Save as new.

  • Name your folder: type the Objective Name
  • Save in: ECA-Clusters workspace — locate the correct Cluster folder

Step 6. Open the new objective folder → Objective Dashboard Data → Objective Dashboard Metrics sheet.

Open the Sheet Summary panel and update the Objective field with the Objective Name.

Step 7. Update the filter criteria on every report in the Objective Dashboard Data folder. Each objective dashboard carries both cluster-level and objective-level reports, so there are two different filters to update:

  • Cluster reports — update the Cluster filter with the new cluster name, untick the old cluster
  • Objective reports — update the Objective Name filter with the new objective, untick the old objective
  • Save the report, and repeat for all reports

Step 8. Repeat the same two-filter update for every chart in the charts folder, nested under Objective Dashboard Data.

Two filters, not one. This is where objective setup differs from cluster setup. An objective dashboard with only the objective filter updated will still show the template cluster's data at cluster level.

Part 3 — Link the dashboard back

Step 9. Locate the new Objective Dashboard, right-click, and select Copy link.

Step 10. Return to the Objective Intake Sheet. Right-click the Objective Dashboard Link cell and select Hyperlink.

  • Link to URL: paste the copied link
  • Display Text: type the Objective Name

Step 11. Save the sheet.
