# Issues and Jurisdiction

## The policy issues and geographic regions used to categorise contacts and companies in Hive.

Issues and jurisdiction are two of the most useful properties in Hive. Together they let you build precise filters and segments — for example, isolating only the civil society contacts working on energy hardship in Queensland.

### Issues

**What is this?** The primary interests that contacts work on. These broadly follow the structure of ECA's advocacy and policy issues.

- Building efficiency
- Consumer duty
- Consumer protections
- Dispute resolution
- Distribution planning and regulation (electricity)
- Efficient, electric appliances
- Electric vehicles
- Empowering advocacy
- Energy hardship
- Energy resilience
- First Nations advocacy
- Flexible appliances (water heaters, pool pumps)
- Future of gas, including network reform and wholesale policy
- Integrated System Plan
- Pricing and tariffs
- Renting advocacy
- Rooftop solar
- Rural or regional advocacy
- Small business
- Small-scale batteries (household and community)
- Transmission planning and cost allocation (electricity)
- Wholesale electricity market

#### How is this different from objectives aligned/opposed?

Issues cut across a broader range of topics than ECA's formal objectives — including small business, First Nations, and regional issues. **There will be some overlap between issues and objectives, but they are not the same field.**

Use **Issues** to record what someone works on. Use **Objectives aligned/opposed** to record where they stand on an ECA position.

### Jurisdiction

**What is this?** The geographic region or market where a contact's or organisation's professional work is focused.

Energy market policy operates across distinct regulatory boundaries. Categorising jurisdiction properly lets you build accurate filters — for example, isolating only the contacts relevant to a specific state or territory issue.

**Available jurisdictions:**

- Federal/National
- NSW
- VIC
- QLD
- SA
- WA
- TAS
- ACT
- NT
- International (including NZ)

**You can select more than one jurisdiction** for a contact or company.
