Grant Recipient Categories

How grant applicants and recipients are tracked in Hive — and how this relates to SmartyGrants.

This article explains how ECA grants are recorded against contacts in Hive.

Grant categories

Category Description Example
Prospective grantee stage The stage a contact is at with a grant application. Inquiry · Application Submitted · Internal Review
Grant type The type of grant a contact has received. Influence/Collaboration Grant
Grant year The year or years they have received a grant. 2021 Gill Owen Scholarship

Associating a contact with a grant project

Contacts can also be associated with a Project using the association label "Grant recipient."

How this relates to SmartyGrants

SmartyGrants remains the primary platform and system of record for grant recipients. It tracks applicants through individual grant processes.

Hive serves a different purpose: capturing early-stage relationship intelligence and connecting grant recipients to the broader stakeholder picture — what else they work on, which issues they're active in, and who they're connected to.

Do not treat Hive as a replacement for SmartyGrants.
